About the 1994–1998 Ford Mustang

A Ford Mustang from the generation archive from the generation archive

The 1994 Ford Mustang launched the fourth generation on the SN95 platform, a heavily reengineered version of the Fox chassis that had carried the car since 1979. The 1994 redesign dropped the three-door hatchback and offered only a coupe (notchback) and a convertible. The base engine across 1994-1998 was the 3.8L (232 cu in) Essex V6. The 1994 and 1995 GT used the pushrod 5.0L (302 cu in) Windsor V8 rated at 215 hp net, the last two model years for that engine in the Mustang. For 1996 Ford replaced it with the overhead-cam modular 4.6L (281 cu in) V8: the GT used the single-overhead-cam two-valve version and the SVT Cobra used the dual-overhead-cam four-valve version rated at 305 hp net. V8 cars used the Ford 8.8-inch live rear axle, and the V8 manual cars used the Borg-Warner T-45 five-speed. The 1998 model year was the last to wear the original SN95 styling before the 1999 New Edge restyle.

The story

I was on a hunt for an affordable fox body stang in a 5 speed trim, but couldn't find one to save my life within 100 miles of Fort Knox that didn't have an automatic. I called EVERY dealership weekly to see if they'd taken any in on trade, auction or anything. After 7 months I decided I was going to rent one when the Bronco decided it didn't like suckin' mud and went in for some new heads. I filled out all the paperwork for the rental and just as I was about to walk out the dealer/rental shop owner ask me if I knew how to drive a stick... I was in shock! I replied with "how long have you had this on the lot?"... 4 months... and you dont remember me asking about any 5spd stangs between then and now?!?!.... I test drove it and we tore the rental agreement up gave him $5500.00 cash and walked away with a mint 1997 GT with 123,000 miles on it on Sept 29th 2005 and I couldn't be happier with it to this day. Photos will follow when I return from Afghanistan in March '07 — badcop91
