1975 Toyota Hilux “MiniMoHo (Chinook)”

The story

Maybe my favorite vehicle because I've wanted one since I saw one on a street in Boulder in 1977, plus my family has had some great times with MiniMoHo through the years.

I have acquired the parts to build an early-block R22 with R20 head with a long-rod configuration.

I may build two separate shortblocks: one to use with a custom EFI manifold based on the Offenhauser Dual-Port for 4bbl. But using VRIS technology with MAF and a single throttle body. One runner/plenum configuration to be routed vs the Hemholz pattern of rpm acoustics, valved by using a modified 4bbl carb throttle plate on the intake. One pair of barrels has no plates in it and the other uses its plates to switch plenum configuration for airflow change tuned to rpm, valved by vacuum diaphram via vacuum solenoid control. No throttle is controlled or separated here, only airflow routing. The throttle is controlled by a single throttle body upstream. I have Doug's Tri-Y headers for that engine.

The other 22R shortblock will have different pistons to use with the SS turbo manifold and GT17 turbo I have, to fit 20R head. This will incorporate std confiuration EFI on a stock intake configured for EFI, and crankfire ignition engine mgmt with boost controllers. Low boost, relatively high static c.r., intercooler. Engine primarily for high altitude use.

I have a complete new front disc brake setup for a later model Toyota Chinook that is much heavier and uses vented rotors, larger calipers, and larger master cylinder.

I have several 5 spd transmissions but will select for the gear ratio spread used on the cars. I have removed a lot of weight from the vehicle and we use it not as a motorhome per se but more like tent-camping/backpacking style.
